As my fiance and I traveled around Greece, I was searching for food that was #plantbased and authentic. I am so glad to share that I found quite a few dishes that fit those requirements!
Other dishes that I found, I simply ensured that they were clean-eating food that was plant based. Most of the dishes that I found that were completely plant based consisted of beans (fava beans are very popular there).
I was so glad to see that even people who eat plant-based diets could enjoy the delicious food in Greece.
This was a wrap with marinated tofu, vegan mayo, and roasted veggies. I absolutely demolished it as soon as I tasted it- so delish!
Here are a few more photos from Peas- by far some of the most flavorful and creative food. Certainly a hidden gem!
I had a savory tart with basil and sun-dried tomatoes. I had an acai smoothie (and LOVED that they had a re-usable straw), and had a multi-grain sandwich with vegan feta and olive tapenade. Absolutely delicious!
My dish is the one closest to the bottom of the picture- stuffed pepper and tomato with potatoes on the side. The tomato and pepper are stuffed with rice and herbs. Very delicious and filling. I had this twice, once in a more popular area of Athens- Montastiraki Flea Market, and then again, further from the city center at a restaurant called Ladokola (about a 30 minute walk south of the Acropolis).
These beans were also what we ordered as an appetizer prior to our meal. Black eyed beans with onion.
Absolutely one of my favorite meals was my eggplant cups stuffed with fava bean puree and topped with caramelized onions. I cannot wait to try and re-create this meal, it was absolutely wonderful. Tyler had the cuttlefish, and said it was the best meal he had in Greece.
We had this meal north of the Acropolis, at a place called Old Tavern of Psara. Our waiter was amazing and spoke such fluent English- really every worker in Athens does!
Another dish that I had that I loved was called the Veggie Tower, at a restaurant called Taverna Tou Psirri. Absolutely wonderful dish! And this restaurant was right across from the cutest and most delicious bakery.
Another dish that I truly enjoyed that was filling and plant based was called "big beans", which I think were cannelloni beans served with a tomato sauce.
The top photo has my "big beans" along with Tyler's lamb and potatoes in a lemon sauce. The second photo has my "big beans" with Tyler's kebap and fries.
A delicious meal after walking up the many, many stairs after our Volcano and Hot Spring expedition in Santorini, Greece. I had the cucumber and tomato salad (with two lone olives) along with the most delicious and tender artichokes! This was at a restaurant called Zafora, overlooking the town of Fira on Santorini. Tyler also got a raspberry passion smoothie!
Lastly, we enjoyed a lot of bread as a vessel to eat quite a few delicious dips and appetizers. Some of the dips were bean based, which made them creamy in consistency and A-OK in my book!
Left, was a fava bean dip with roasted tomatoes on top. Great with bread!
Middle was a bruschetta with arugula and tomato.
Right, a roasted red pepper dip with pita bread for dipping.
Of course, with each meal, Tyler and I enjoyed some wine and over ate, but that is the fun in traveling and enjoying local cuisine!
I hope you enjoyed reading and viewing all of the delicious, plant-based meals that we consumed while vacationing in Greece!
Cheers!
